5 holiday destinations to take your mum

When thinking about Mother’s Day, you may be wondering what the best gift could be to buy for your beloved mother this year to really show her how much you care. Whilst flowers, chocolates and cards are all very much welcomed gifts, treat your mum to a Mother’s Day trip she’s never going to forget and create memories that will last a lifetime. That’s why InsuraTrip have compiled 5 family favourite ‘mum friendly’ destinations to jet of to this Mother’s Day for an extra special treat!

(1) Madrid

Spain’s central capital of Madrid is one of the perfect places for a Mother’s Day holiday. Not only is the weather generally a nice, toasty temperature all year round (a few degrees warmer than the UK at least!) the city is packed with colourful, manicured parks, cosy street cafes and boutique shops meaning you can easily pass a day or two relaxing in the sun, people watching and shopping until you drop.

(2) Croatia

Croatia is an underrated and often forgotten European destination that really should be on any person’s bucket list to visit!

Croatia is home to some of the most beautiful scenery in the world with its breath-taking sunset views, quaint old-style towns and traditional harbours. Whilst in town, you and your mother can enjoy your days on land or on the sea visiting local monuments such as the Grebeni lighthouse and feasting on local Croatian cuisine and drinking wine while you bask in the sun enjoying the views.

(3) The French Riviera

The French Riviera or Cote d’Azur offers an abundance of beautiful coastal towns such as the famous Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Nice and Monaco with plenty on offer whether you stay for 3 days or 14. Offering roughly 300 days of sunshine a year, the French Riviera is the perfect spot all year round for sun seekers, shoppers, foodies and for experiencing a taste of ultimate luxury lifestyle.

For an unforgettable Mother’s Day dinner, head down to Graziella in Monaco which is right on the ocean front next to the outstanding princess Grace Botanical Garden. This place is also named on Trip Advisor as one of the top 10 restaurants in Monaco! (Information correct at time of writing article.)

(4) Lisbon

If you’re planning a weekend packed full of sight-seeing then there’s no better place to do so than in Lisbon. Dripping in history and offering stunning architecture, Lisbon has everything for history buffs and sun seekers alike. Why not treat mum to a private tour of the city in a trendy Tuk-Tuk to spot the sights such as Lisbon Cathedral and Mouraria, the birth place of local music genre, Fado. Once finished, treat yourselves to a famous Portugese custard cakes, Pastel de nata. Perfect!

(5) Florence, Tuscany

Lastly on our list of top spots to take your mum this Mother’s Day is Florence.

Tuscany is arguably one of the wine and food capitals of the world, so if you’re both passionate about food, there is no better place to spend a long weekend than enjoying  gourmet Tuscan cuisine!

Florence, the birth place of the renaissance, has plenty on offer for even those that don’t come for the food. Few cities of this size offer an extraordinary culture trip ; art and architecture at every turn, historic, cobbled streets that are reminiscence of the 15th and 16th century are a sight to behold and world-class museums housing works by Botticcelli, Michelangelo and more are definitely worth seeing whilst you’re there.

Italy is also famous for its fashion scene and boutique shopping experience and it would be rude not to buy a real Italian handbag whilst in Italy!
