Home Renovation Insurance
Specialist Home Insurance for Properties Under Renovation
Home renovation projects can increase the risk to your property, so it's important to have the right insurance in place from the start.
Many homeowners ask, "Can I get home insurance if my home is having improvements?” At InsuraHome, the answer is yes. Our specialist home insurance during renovations is designed for homes left unoccupied while major renovation work is carried out.
Renovation work can increase the risk of fire, theft, escape of water, storm damage and other unexpected incidents. Most standard home insurance policies are unlikely to cover these risks. Having the appropriate insurance in place can help protect your property from the moment work begins until the project is complete.

Why Home Renovation Insurance Matters
Renovating your home is an exciting opportunity to transform your property into the space you've always wanted. Whether you're adding an extension, converting existing space or carrying out a major refurbishment, every stage brings you closer to creating the home you want.
However, larger renovation projects often require you to leave your home unoccupied while work is carried out. During renovation work, your property may be more vulnerable to risks such as fire, theft, escape of water and storm damage. If your home is left unoccupied, these issues may not be discovered straight away.
Standard home insurance policies are typically designed for occupied homes. During major building work or while your property is unoccupied, you may need specialist cover instead.
That's why having specialist renovation insurance in place can help protect your property against unexpected events. It can also help you avoid costly setbacks that could delay or disrupt your renovation project.

4. How Much Does Renovation House Insurance Cost?
The cost of renovation house insurance depends on several factors, so there isn't a fixed price.
Several factors can affect the cost of your policy. These include the type of renovation you are carrying out and the length of time your property will be unoccupied. Also, the level of cover you choose and the rebuild value of your home will affect the price of the policy.
If you're unsure of your property's rebuild value, you can arrange a rebuild cost assessment with a Chartered Surveyor. Alternatively, you can use a rebuild cost calculator to estimate your home's rebuild value.
5. Are There Any Requirements for Home Insurance During Building Work?
Yes. There are some requirements when it comes to home insurance for building work with InsuraHome. Firstly, you would need to notify us as soon as possible that you will be carrying out building work to your property.
Additionally, it is important that you tell us at least 30 days for the following situations:
- before any building work starts at your property
- before entering into a contract for building work valued at more than £75,000 (including VAT)
However, if you do not notify us, it could affect your cover or result in your policy becoming invalid. Your policy documents will explain any conditions that apply to your cover.
6. Is This Accidental Damage Cover for My Home Refurbishment Insurance?
Accidental damage cover is not included in house refurbishment insurance, nor available as an optional extra. This means accidental damage to certain items is not covered under the policy. These include glass, solar panels, bathroom fittings, hobs and underground pipes.
